Chamber Music made in Munich comes to China
Friends of Chamber Music should listen now. The well known “Münchner Klaviertrio”, established in 1982, comes to China for a series of concerts.
The Trio, consisting of Donald Sulzen (Piano), Michael Arlt (Violin) and Gerhard Zank (Violoncello) will perform some works from their wide variety of compositions of different composers like Beethoven, Bernstein, Dvorak, Schubert and Schumann.
Donald Sulzen (Piano) was born in the USA and graduated his studies at University of North Texas and École normale de musique de Paris with summa-cum-laude. Today he acts as academic at Richard Strauss Conservatorium in Munich.
Michael Arlt (Violin) finished his Arts Diploma at Musikhochschule Weimar and a Performer Diploma at Indiana University. Afterwards he graduated his Master of Music at Rice University. Today he is principal second violin of the Bavarian State Orchestra and soloist in several concerts with different orchestras.
Gerhard Zank (Violoncello) studied his instrument in Bukarest and already won different prices on international competitions. Regularly he gives concerts with different well-known interpreters of chamber music.
Not only the audience loves the Trio although the media does it. Süddeutsche Zeitung writes about “treasures in word and sound” as well as a the actual performers were a “perfect cast”. The magazine Musical Opinion compliments their performance of “Dumky Trio” from Dvorak as “exciting and affectionate” and a US magazine says that Münchner Trio plays in a “enthusiastic” way and performs the compositions in the “most persuasive way”.
The Strad: “The tension was broken with the lyricism of Dvorak’s “Dumky” Trio; the Munich Piano Trio’s meltingly phrased performance made a suitable end to a month of virtuosic ensemble playing.”
FAZ
“Thus one wishes Chamber music evenings! A varied, wisely well-chosen program, spirited, dynamic, moving interpreters, mastering the most difficult passages with nonchalance, with discipline and spilt second harmonic changes”
Süddeutsche Zeitung:
“In their passionate interpretation, the three musicians drew the fullest possible sonority and flowing melodies out of their instruments, leading their exciting, homogenous ensemble to a fulminating climax. To speak simply of perfection, would not be enough. It was a culmination of artistic commitment, a most successful endeavour to achieve musical expression of the very deepest nature”
