Ariane Moffatt - China EXPO Tour 2010

Ariane Moffatt's love of music began when she was only a child. She studied the piano, and showed an early interest in jazz vocals. As a teenager, she left her hometown of Quebec City for Montréal, where she studied music at a local College. This is when she discovered Tori Amos and Ben Harper, songwriters for which writing, composing and arranging are inseparable.

She was recognized after having participated in several contests: “Cégeps en Spectacle” in 1996, “L'Empire des Futures Stars” in 1998 (where she was named Best Performer), and a brief but educational trip-hop experience with Group Tenzen. After having earned her College diploma, Ariane Moffatt enrolled in a popular music and singing program at the University of Quebec in Montreal. The young artist’s exceptional stage presence became less and less of a secret, attracting the attention of high profile French Canadian artists who recruited her to play for their bands.

While her live performances left lasting impressions, Ariane was hard at work on her first album. In June of 2002, Aquanaute was released under the Audiogram label, an album integrating electro-folk, jazz and pop. The brilliant debut earned her critical and popular acclaim. “Point de mire”, “Fracture du crane”, and “Poussière d’ange” are songs that profoundly influenced French Canadian music. With more than 120,000 albums sold, Aquanaute won three Félix Awards in 2003: New Artist of the Year, Pop-Rock Album of the Year, and Producer of the Year (the latter was shared amongst her co-writers at the time, Francis Collard and Joseph Marchand).

In May 2005, the release of the Ariane Moffatt à la Station C DVD forever immortalized the sonic and sensory experience that represents each and every one of Ariane’s performances. Meanwhile, a second album had entered its final post-production stage Le Cœur dans la Tête and was released in November 2005, revealing a musically daring artist whose lyrics were very autobiographical. Once more, the public discovered her true talent with songs such as “Combustion lente”, “Montréal”, “Will You Follow Me”, and “Imparfait". Recorded around Montreal and surrounding areas, the album was considered by many a “groove & grunge” album, with its raw lyrics and cutting edge sounds.

The Quebec singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has continued to offer her fans several memorable performances, among which is her unforgettable show at the FrancoFolies de Montréal in August 2007.

In April 2008, all eyes and ears were on Ariane for the release of Tous les sens, a radiant and groovy album, at the crossroads between techno and roots. She didn’t disappoint her fans and this latest release recently was gols record and won the Pop-Rock Album of the Year and Pop Song of the Year honours at the 2008 Felix Awards.
