Biography of Roland Batik
Professor Roland Batik, Austrian pianist, composer, teacher , was born in Vienna, Austria. Roland Batik spent his early years in Vienna University studying music, performing arts and piano training under the guidance of Friedrich Gulda .Meanwhile, he also learned Jazz Piano Performing after Bauer both in the field of classical and jazz. He has achieved profound excellencies. His debut was in Vienna Golden Hall 1975.
During the cooperation with Bauer Gulda gained Roland Batik great reputation in Vienna and made a great success. From 1982 to 1988, this combination gave shows with Poland indoor Symphony, Mozart Symphony Orchestra and other famous groups in the major European cities and concerts, including (the Vienna Golden Hall, Düsseldorf Concert Hall, Munich Philharmonic Hall, Zurich Concert Hall, , Hamburg Music Hall, etc.).
In 1988, this combination decided to separate and develop into solo performers. Roland Batik developed his own personal style, performing a wide range of piano solo music, his repertoire is blended with classical, romantic and impressionist style. This period, with EMI, he recorded his first solo album, playing Bach and Mozart as well as some of his own repertoire. Based on the integration with a variety of chamber music his own composition style was created.
Before that, the composing talent of Roland Batik had already shown in the triple group which was formed in 1977(piano Roland Batik,cello Heinrich Werkl, drummer Walter Grassmann). Besides the performances in traditional music halls(with Angel Romero in Vienna Golden Hall)and Jazz clubs, the works of this triple group was also played quite a lot on radio and television, including 4 CDs of Roland Batik's own works. This triple group created their own jazz style in recent years.The pieces show a strong consistent style and also pose a challenge to improvisation performing.
As a solo pianist, Roland Batik gained the greatest reputation in 1991, as his record of Mozart Piano Concerto was awarded the best record of "Vienna flute". After that he performed in Japan and received many invitations of famous music festivals like Bregenzer Festspiele, Carinthischer Sommer and Wiener Musiksommer.
His first piano concert, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 - Meditation upon Peace, in Vienna in December was a great success. Recording of this concert has been made into great tracks. From then on, Roland Batik became the most popular composer of Chamber music and symphony orchestra. Medias and radios also commented optimistically.
In November 2000, Roland Batik received Lower Austria's culture award. In Feb.2004, Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 2, his new composing piece was performed around the world with Bruckner Orchestra in Linz/Austria, which was highly appraised by the audience
