The composer and educationalist Carl Orff founded the Orff Institute in 1961 as the centre of elemental music and dance education at the Mozarteum University. Orff Schulwerk regards the relationship between music, language and dance as the basis of musical socialisation and development of the personality. The Carl Orff Institute is devoted to training teachers for elemental music and dance/movement education in schools and freelance at all levels of training. The Institute is committed in particular to the academic as well as the artistic and practical development of music and dance education and sees its duty in keeping alive the tradition of Orff Schulwerk, documenting its progress and promoting its further evolvement.
